Delete your Whim account

This page lets you request deletion of your Whim account and its associated data. You have two options.

Option 1 — delete from inside the Whim app (preferred)

This is the fastest and most complete option.

  1. Open the Whim app on your phone
  2. Go to Settings → Account → Danger Zone → Delete Account
  3. Read the warning, tap Continue, enter your password, and tap Delete Forever

This immediately deactivates your account on the Matrix homeserver with the erase: true flag (requesting message redaction where technically feasible), signs you out of all devices, and wipes the encrypted local database and authentication tokens from the device you're on.

Option 2 — request deletion by email

If you've already uninstalled the app, can't sign in, or simply prefer email, send a message to [email protected] with:

  • Subject: Account deletion request
  • Your Matrix user ID (e.g., @yourname:chat.yourcompany.com), or the email you used to sign up, and the address of your Organisation's Whim workspace so we can route the request to your administrator
  • Optionally: which Whim build you used (com.unikong.whim for the standard app; com.client.chat for the white-label edition)

We will respond within 30 days, in line with Thailand's Personal Data Protection Act §30.

What happens when an account is deleted

Deleted:

  • Your access to the account across every device signed in with it
  • Your display name, avatar, and profile on the homeserver
  • Your locally encrypted database (drafts, cached thumbnails, settings, translations) on devices where you still have the app installed
  • Your authentication tokens — you will need to sign up from scratch to create a new account

Redacted where technically feasible:

  • Messages you previously sent to rooms, per the Matrix erase: true flag. Message recipients may retain decrypted copies on their own devices, and other Matrix servers that federated with your messages may retain copies per their own policy — this is inherent to the Matrix protocol, not a choice by us.

Retained for legal and security reasons:

  • A pseudonymous tombstone record of your Matrix user ID, so the ID cannot be re-registered by someone else and any lawful-request obligations can be met.
  • Minimal billing records, if you had a paid plan, for the period required by Thai tax and accounting law.
